Our All-Time Favorite Travel Book

We think travel is an intellectual, spiritual, and emotional experience, more than it is a leisure experience.  You can rest on the weekends at home.  You travel to learn about the world, about people, and about yourself.

Real travel can be one of the richest parts of a person's life. By you've got to be open to the experiences you'll encounter, and be prepared to take advantage of them.  So, we've included a few pages here to get you thinking about travel.

Cheap Principles is one of the most important pages here.   These are things to keep in mind as you form the correct attitude towards your trip and your experiences on the road.

Cheap Philosophy is where we go on and on about what it all means.   (Don't say we didn't warn you!)  But you still might want to read it, just to get a sense of what travel really can be and should be if you do it right.

Cheap Paradoxes is one of our favorite pages.  Here are just some unexpected observations we've had, especially times when we've had to change our way of thinking because of our travel experiences.

We think Beggars and Begging is one of the most important pages too.  For many, traveling to cheap places is the first time they have to encounter the disparity between rich and poor so intimately.  And there's no more intimate example of economic inequality than dealing with beggars.  This is a very hard subject, with no clear answers, so it's largely ignored.  But we include it here, because we think it's important, and it's something you'd better be prepared for.

Cheap Living is about coming home after your cheap trip.   Just maybe you'll see your life a little differently, and you may adjust a few things based on what you learned on the road.

We'd love to travel more, but sometimes all we can manage is the armchair variety.   As such, we have some Favorite Travel Writers who do it for us, and let us know how it goes.  We think any serious traveler should read travel books, just to get a sense of how to do it right.

Our All-Time Favorite Travel Book is a nutty book about Mexico, that's part guide book, part travelogue.  We think that this book really captures the right attitude about cheap travel, and as we say over and over, attitude is everything, at least in travelling.
