The People's Guide to Mexico by Carl Franz encapsulates better than any other what we think is the right travel attitude:   Go forth without expectations, with few plans, and see what ye shall find.   And most important of all, experience the local people and the local culture.   And best of all, it's totally hilarious - you can open it to almost any page and get a great chuckle.

We love this book because it's like a guide book without any information about destinations.  Instead, it's a general guide to everything you'll have to deal with on a cheap trip around mexico, all illustrated with stories of Carl and company's best efforts to fit in and figure things out.

Our favorite chapters cover things like dealing with Cantinas, how to bargain in the marketplace,
